I had a great stay here! The hostel was clean, comfortable, and in a perfect location—just a short walk from the park. Ezzly was especially wonderful; they made everything incredibly easy and welcoming from the moment I arrived. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a smooth, pleasant experience

As others have said, El Cubil is an excellent place to stay, generally quieter than many of the other popular hotel and campgrounds and closer to the climbing. Yes, some of the rooms are basic – like mine, which essentially a two-bunk prison cell but affordable and perfectly adequate for my needs. Zero complaints.The kitchen has everything you need and is where you'll befriend your fellow guest/climbers. Best of all, Guillermo and Griselda are wonderful and welcoming hosts who really do make you feel like a part of their family. I'll be back for sure.

El Cubil is excellent! The staff, location, and grounds are all incredible. Ezzly was very easy to work with when setting up our stay, and also very helpful while we were there. I will stay at El Cubil the next time I am in El Portrero Chico, without a doubt.

I had the BEST experience staying at El Cubil. I am so happy I stayed here instead of the other lodging options at EPC. The family that owns / runs it lives on the property and they are super friendly and accommodating to any needs. This is the main difference between El Cubil vs. the other hostels because it doesn’t just feel like it’s run as a business transaction. They really care about their guests and we even went climbing with Guillermo and his family! The kitchen is awesome and we were able to cook with all the supplies provided and they also have a microwave. They even provide filtered drinking water every day for us which the other hostels don’t do. My sister and I rented a private room that had a double bed and single bed in it with our own private bathroom. We had hot water in the shower. I would highly recommend staying here. We had the best time and we met such awesome people here. Next time I come back to EPC I wouldn’t stay any where else. It’s super close to the crag and you can always spend time at La Posada across the street to meet people and be social and then come home to a peaceful good night of sleep.

Timeline: 6 week stay - solo traveller Host: Griselda and Guillermo are the best hosts ever! They are friendly, very generous and if they see you trying to learn about the the Mexican culture, they will show/help by integrating you into their family life! Bob and Lisa are super helpful when it comes to the logistical side of things as well as making mexico feel like home also! Look forward to stories from Bob! They give rides to the markets as well, make sure to ask! Greg the custodian is a climbers' climber. From route developing to taking care of the kitchen to giving helpful beta and recommendation, a valuable person to have in the place. Location: prime location! Super close to the canyon and the other restaurants up there. Direct access to buzz rock too! Rooms: originally booked the single rooms, but they were accomadating in fitting us into a bigger room! The small room is configured as bunk beds in a tight spot with enough space to store your gear and clothes. But if you're here for climbing, it's got everything you need. As a pro, when it gets cold, these rooms are well insulated(read: warm). Amenities: fully stocked kitchen and lots of fridge space along with a dry bin for your self The place is very clean. They even supply drinkable water! They even supply drinkable water! With the opening of the second common room/kitchen, there's ample space for lots of people to hang out. Starlink wifi!! Working remotely was eased. Speed is fast! of course being satellite wifi don't expect good speeds when there is lots of cloud coverage(just the nature of the technology and it happened very rarely) Showers had reliable hot and cold options. Hot showers were super crucial for those cold days! Conclusion: Would stay here again! Felt like being part of a family!

From the greeting upon arrival of two beautiful hosts, to seeing the environment that el cubil was able to offer felt so incredibly special. If you’re looking to find peace, and feel warmed by the people this is the place to be. Surrounded my mountains, good convos, and attentive hosts I could have asked for more. Of course traveling always comes with pros and cons , but truthfully they provided us these fuzzy blankets that were so warm!!! I stayed in the private room and bath. So worth it. This family is well connected and is very grateful to take you in . Thankful for life and el cubil. Thank you for giving me a place to rest my head during this time.

Perfect place to come back to after climbing. Bob is amazing and makes sure his people are cared for. Two full kitchens, many bathrooms WITH HOT WATER!!, and plenty of places to hang around. We’ll for sure be back. Thanks hon!

Great place to stay. Rooms were very comfortable and quite. Nice hot water in the showers and ac/heater unit was much needed. All the shared space were really nice. Guillermo and Griselda were excellent hosts and very friendly and patient with me as we used Google translate back and forth. Private path up to Buzz rock was also a huge benefit and I'm very excited to see the new restaurant/bar that is currently being built.
